Meg Benjamin and Konigsburg, Texas

Venus in Blue Jeans: Konigsburg, Texas Book 1Last week I downloaded Venus in Blue Jeans: Konigsburg, Texas Book 1 from Amazon as a free read. I loved it right from the beginning. Big, burly vet is knocked flat on his ass by a tall, red-headed bookseller. The boy-meets-girl plot is simple enough but what Benjamin manages to do with it is great. Added to the comic love story is a needy Chihuhua, demon feline, and the inhabitants of the local watering hole who all pitch in the complicate the lives of Cal and Docia.
To be honest, it's very rare that I read the follow-up books from a free read but this one really made me want to see what happened next with the Tolefson brothers. Yes, there are four of them and all equally giangantic. Wedding Bell Blues features brother Pete, a tired county attorney who comes to Konigsburg for a wedding and some time off and gets way more than that. Next is Lars in Be My Baby,  who as an accountant, would seem to be the staid one but turns out to be a hot item on the circuit. The last book is about blacksheep oldest brother Erik. Long Time Gone wraps up the series with the the family finally getting back together after years of distance.
As a whole, the series was quite entertaining but I think it seemed "incomplete". There are some serious conflicts with criminals in all four books that are never brought to justice and since those elements were essential to the action in the books, I felt that it should have been wrapped up in a neater package. But, I likes them anyway.
