Retro Read: Captive Bride

Now reading Captive Bride by Johanna Lindsey. Found a reprinted copy at the local library and decided that I needed to reacquaint myself with a master of romance.

Captive Bride

Live Wire by Lora Leigh

Live Wire (Elite Ops) Awesome Alpha Male. Jordan's was more than I expected.  Interest Book
Like everyone else who've read the Elite ops, I waited and waited for Jordan's book. Jordan and Teyha have been plaging me since Wild Card (Elite Ops, Book 1). I was a little worried about this one becuase the "big guy" is always left to the end of a series and somehow his story is a let down. Case in point: Lion's Heat (Breeds)The story of Jonas Wyatt shold have been the best of the series. The guy was a complete ass  (sexy though) and Leigh built him into what I thought was going to be an explosive book. But what I got was Jonas going soft and he had none of his usual umph.
This  is not the case with Jordan's story. This guy didn't give up until the end and I loved it. He remained the same arrogant, controlling ass throughout and Tehya gave as good as she got--never letting Jordan have in inch. I had stopped reading the Elite Ops series after a while but I think I need to re-introduce myself with the guys of the Elite Ops. Good job on this one. 5 stars.

Declaring Spinsterhood ....I can so relate

Declaring Spinsterhood Emma is single and over 30 and her little brother just got married.  That should be enought torture but add in a nagging motheer, cheating ex and obnoxious uncle and Emma is nearing a nevous breakdown.  The only constant in Emma's life is her neighbor and best friend Brian who comforts with Cary Grant and chocolate ice cream but this is changing too.
Cute mixture of cliches but entertaining. Just a nice romance.

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre (Movie Tie-in Edition) (Vintage Classics) I am still wondering why it took me this long to read this book...Again.  Of course,  there was the requisite high school reading and I found  the I loved Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights) a lot more than Rochester. I mean, Heathcliff was handsome and tragic and Rochester was an cynical and unattractive man.  Oh, how my mind has been changed.....I have decided that Jane Eyre is probably one of the best romances I have ever read, modern or classic.
When I purchased my Kindle I thought that it was the best opportunity for me to read all of the Classics that I had neglected to read thoroughly (or at all) while I was in school.  As an English major, I made a career of quickly reading through most books and gleaning enough to write a paper or pass a test. I have done myself a grave injustice. So, I downloaded Jane Eyre and read like six pages and never returned to it until news of the movie release. I began to read it again when Goodreads.com announced a contest.  The only time I read the book was one the train to and from work; just couldn't get the groove of things while at home.  But as the movie release got closer, I was determined to finish. I found that I LOVE THIS BOOK!
I was saddened by Jane's life with the Reeds', glad for her when she secured her position at Thornfield,  I laughed at her sparring with Rochester and I cried when he broke her heart.  Funny thing is....I had the very same emotions when I saw the movie last night.   Dame Judi Dench was lovely. Mia Wasikowska was sassy, strong and wonderfully vulnerable. And Michael Fassbender....well Rochester has never been this hot (not even Timothy Dalton). Fassbender's Rochester was a complete ass but a redeemable one. Just a beautiful film and worth watching. I will now have to purchase a paper copy of Jane Eyre for bookshelf.

Promise Canyon (Virgin River, #11)Promise Canyon by Robyn Carr

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Based on Amazon.com reviews, I didn't think I would like this one. Why do I listen to other people? Some of the complaints about the book were that there was too much of the other characaters lives in the story of Clay and Lilly. But that is what the whole Virgin River series is about. I loved it. Both Clay and Lilly are modern people living with tradional cultural values. Carr does not make a mockery of their heritage and not a lot of time is spent on Native American history, just some attention paid to the individual history of the two characters.

Clay is described as a man beautiful in body and in spirit and when Lilly's friend Dane swoons at the sight of him, is just priceless. Makes me wonder who her model for Clay was? Great book which keeps you updated on the lives of the citizens of Virgin River.

Sizzle (Buchanan, #8)Sizzle by Julie Garwood

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Another success by Garwood. I love the Buchannan's and all their interesting friends...they all lead such wonderful lives. Though not as riveting as Killjo, etc., Sizzle was definetly a good read for me. I read the book in one day (even after having worked for hours).

Ok, so here for an interesting plot. Lyra is a student at an L.A. film school and gets stuck doing extra credit for the professor from hell. On her way to take some pictures for her film, Lyra drives past the best yard sale ever. And gets noticed by all the wrong people. This is where Sam comes in...since he's in the area, Sam is asked to protect her. He's knows instantly that he's in some serious trouble. In the middle of all the mayhem is Lyra's eccentric grandmother, Gigi and Lyra's greedy parents. And don't forget the really creepy guy with the bad spray-on tan and fake mustache.

Sam and Lyra has a great chemistry and Gigi is a doll. This is a series that I'll continue to read.
