Falling Down

How bad can it be that you would think that Gd would not be able to fix? Heal you?

I was speaking, casually, to a friend today and she mentioned that a friend of hers had killed himself while sitting in his car, in his driveway. And I wondered, "What could be that bad?" That is something that those of of us on this side of the Veil will never know. I wondered if a suicidal person thinks of what the family and friends will think after their passing? Is there a thought of Gd or do they feel the complete absense of Him in those last moments?

Later this afternoon, I listened to Donnie McKlurkin singing "We Fall Down". We fall down but we get up. This is all by the power and the Grace of Gd. His Grace is always with us.

John 16: 32-33 "Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

63 st and Counting...

There'sa woman in the UK who weighs in at 63 st (one stone is 14lbs for us Yanks) and she wants to keep going until she reaches her ultimate goal of becoming the fattest woman in the world. Huh? What?
Her husband seems to be okay with the idea, giving her all the support she needs.

Here's the question: If she dies during her quest or as a result of her weight, will the insurance company pay out a death benefit? Should that be considered suicide or some other form of extreme behavior?

Hot Westmoreland Nights by Brenda Jackson

HOT! HOT! And Hotter still. Brenda Jackson pulled out all the sensual stops with this new one from Harlequin's Desire imprint. Ramsey Westmoreland is a typical rancher: tough, reserved, lonely. But best of all---he's tall, chocolate, and delicious.

Chloe Burton spies Ramsey from a distance and immediately wants him---for her magazine's cover. Somehow there's a mix-up and Chloe is suddenly employed by the uber-quiet Ramsey. From here, the pages start to singe. (I was reading this at work and I had to look around several times to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder).

Bottom line: This book is worth the less than $5 cover price. Another score for Jackson with Hot Westmoreland Nights.

Today on Kindle

So, last night I download another freebie from the Kindle Bestseller's list. This one is called A Passion Most Pure by Julie Lessman. Now I am a newbie to the world of Christian fiction; I've always figured that I liked my romance and thrillers not to preach to me. I have learned the error of may ways and found that some of this stuff is just plain good.
So with A Passion Most Pure, Faith O'Connor is in love with Colin and so is her sister, Charity. What a pickle that is. Colin seems to be out for the best time he can have without giving anything of himself and the O'Connor sisters are going to pay the price. But Faith is aptly named because she has an unshakable faith in God and wants the man of her dreams to have the same. This story is twisting in some interesting places(and I'm not even finished with it yet).

So....if you want to read something that is good for the soul and romantic, to boot, this is definetly as YES! and free for a limited time at Amazon.com for Kindle.

A Free Book is a Good Book

It's just like adding salt to a meal at a banquet: it might not taste the way you cook at home but at least it's free.

I have been an avid reader for more than 25 years (I'm 32 now) and never thought that I'd be able to read books in any fornat other than paper and binding. But with the new popularity of e-book readers from Sony, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon, this thing is really starting to catch on. So, I downloaded the BN e-book reader to my Blackberry and fell in love. Here was the happiest place on earth offering me the opportunity to buy and read books without having to leave the house on a rainy day (The angels say "Ahhhhhhh").  Then I downloaded the Mobipocket reader that connects to several different sites which have online stores as well. And finally, the one that started it all: the Kindle became available for Blackberry. I almost cried! Didn't I already have three readers on my phone already? Did really need another one? YES!!!

The beauty of it is---some sites offer discounts on new releases and best sellers, some offer rebates that can be used for future purchases, and best of all, some of the books are free (for a limited time). You download them, read them and if you're a good little trooper, you'll write a review so that others can share your literary ice cream cone. Some of the offered titles might not be to your liking but they're free so why complain? Just delete them.  But sometimes, you'll get an unexpected gem like Petals from the Sky by Mingmei Yip or a future bestsellers like Demonfire by Kate Douglas and Fang by James Patterson. So, it's all worth what you paid for it.  (HMMM)

Amazon.com updates most often with BarnesandNoble.com coming in at no.2. You should also try Fictionwise.com, Ereader.com for a good reader experience. While Blackberry, Ipod Touch and Iphone support most services,  the Kindle and Barnes and Noble e-readers are not yet supported by Windows Mobile, Nokia, Droid, Etc. (Hope springs eternal).
